Bosses of a care home in Peterborough have committed to paying staff above the National Minimum Wage.

Clayburn Court care home, in Clayburn Road, Hampton Centre, which is owned by national care home operator Anchor, has become an accredited real Living Wage employer by the fair pay campaign group, the Living Wage Foundation.

It means the home has committed to paying staff the real Living Wage at £10.90 per hour, which is higher than the National Minimum Wage which is paid at £9.50 per hour.

Clayburn Court is part of Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people, which employs more than 9,000 colleagues across the country.

It is thought that Anchor is the first large provider of care and housing to pay staff, whatever their age or where they work, at or above the real Living Wage.

Genia Haylock, who works as a Team Leader at Anchor’s Clayburn Court, said: “I’m proud to work in social care and making a difference, so to work for a company which recognises and rewards the importance of my work by committing to paying the real Living Wage means a lot to me, especially given the increasing costs of living.”

Jaqualine Nzara, manager of Clayburn Court, said: “It shows the organisation’s commitment to ensuring colleagues are rewarded for their hard work and dedication to residents.”
