Remembrance Sunday is always a poignant day when the city comes together to remember those who have served and given their lives for our country.

Events centre on the war memorial in Bridge Street which was installed in 2012. Previously there had been a monument at the back of the cathedral and before that there had been ‘the cube’ memorial which was also in Bridge Street (pictured).

The first picture shows a group of men who heeded their country’s call to join up in the First World War. They are pictured outside Peterborough’s Recruiting Office. It’s a sombre thought that some of those men probably never saw Peterborough again.

The final picture shows John and Rita Restorick at a memorial service for their son former Peterborough schoolboy Stephen who in 1997 was the last British soldier killed in Northern Ireland. Rita went on to tirelessly campaign for peace.
