A jury has been discharged this afternoon after failing to reach a verdict on a man accused of threatening people with an air rifle during a disturbance in Hunstanton.

Simon Sparrow, 44, of Walton Road, Wisbech, had been on trial at the King’s Lynn Crown Court this week in connection with an incident in the seaside resort in May last year.

He was accused of possessing a firearm with intent to cause others to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against them.

But the jury of eight women and four men were unable to reach a verdict in the case, despite receiving a direction earlier today that a majority verdict of 11 to one or 10 to two would be accepted.

It is currently unclear whether Sparrow will face a retrial.
