Peterborough flats evacuated after arsonists strike

Peterborough flats were evacuated last night after arsonists pushed a burning mattress against the building.

At 11.32pm last night crews from Dogsthorpe and Stanground were called to a fire on The Dell in Woodston, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving a mattress next to a building that was spreading to flats. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and other extinguishers.

The property was evacuated before the crews arrived.

The crews returned to their stations by 1.50am.
