Police are investigating antisemitic graffiti which has been sprayed in an underpass in Peterborough and near a special school.

A swastika has been spray-painted in the underpass that runs under Brimbles Way in Orton Brimbles, near Ferryview, and on a lamppost near Phoenix School in Orton Goldhay.

The school is for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Other offensive graffiti has also reportedly been left elsewhere in other underpasses in the Ortons, as well as in a play area.

Green Party city councillor for Orton Waterville Julie Howell, who saw the graffiti, said: “During this time of confusion and uncertainty the last thing people want to see on their daily walks is offensive graffiti. I have asked the council to remove it as soon as possible and would ask anyone who knows how it got there to get in touch with me.”

Cambridgeshire police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch as they investigate.

A force spokeswoman said: “We are aware of this incident and officers are working with partners to get the graffiti removed from the area as soon as possible.
