The evacuation of the John Lewis store in Peterborough has been explained by the retailer.

The store in Queensgate was emptied on Saturday at around noon.

Asked what had caused the evacuation, a John Lewis spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the shop was evacuated on Saturday. This was due to a false alarm triggered by the construction work that is taking place as part of the shop refurbishment.”
