Fab-u-lous treat for hospital staff as Strictly star comes to visit

“It was a-ma-zing meeting everyone today and I look forward to many more opportunities to work with such an important and inspiring organisation in the future.”

Strictly star Craig Revel Horwood swapped the lights of the ballroom for hospital wards as he paid a visit to some of the teams working in Peterborough.

Along with his role as judge on the ever-popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing, Craig is also North West Anglia Hospitals’ Charity patron – and last week he paid a visit to Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland Hospitals to meet some of the staff working there, and see some of the work done by the trust charity.

Craig, who now lives locally, conducted the official opening of a new staff area in the emergency department at Peterborough City Hospital, as well as a new sensory garden for children at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, during his visits. He also posed for countless photos with staff across the hospitals and chatted to staff, volunteers and patients.

Craig said: “I had an absolute ball visiting the three hospitals. I even tried my hand at hospital radio and gave a quick Charleston class to a nurse! It was a-ma-zing meeting everyone today and I look forward to many more opportunities to work with such an important and inspiring organisation in the future.”

Part of Craig’s role as North West Anglia Hospitals patron is to raise awareness of the work that the Charity does in enhancing patient experience and supporting staff to improve their working environments.

Trust Chief Executive Officer Caroline Walker said: “We were thrilled when Craig offered to work with our North West Anglia Hospitals Charity at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, our visiting restrictions at the time meant we could only introduce him virtually to staff via some online meetings. However, on Friday he very kindly gave up his time to visit Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland Hospitals, much to the delight of our staff, volunteers and patients!”

If you would like to donate to the North West Anglia Hospitals Charity, you can do this by texting HELP4NHS to 70970 to donate £5, or 70191 to donate £10. All donations received are earmarked directly for patient or staff projects.
