Almost 5,000 people helped make this year’s Baston Car and Bike Show the biggest ever, according to organisers.

The event took place on Sunday and featured about 600 cars and 200 bikes. The show aims to be all-inclusive and anyone who turns up is allowed to show off their vehicle, so visitors could take a look at everything from a Fiat Panda to a Ferrari.

Show committee chairman Tony Squires said: “It went extremely well. It was the biggest event we have had, and probably the biggest event that Baston has seen full stop.

“A large number of people came to see it; much more than last year. We were busy from 7am until 4pm.”

The bulk of the vehicles at the show came from individuals keen to show off their pride and joy. There were also a number of special attractions, including a Back to the Future-themed display area with a DeLorean DMC-12 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film.

Bourne firm Hall and Hall provided a treat for motor racing fans, bringing four of its 1970s Formula One cars.

Several dealerships also brought along models for people to view, with close to 100 new cars on show.

The popularity of the event is spreading, and people are now visiting from all over the country. Tony said: “The community appreciates it for a few reasons.

“It’s a great day out not just for people in the village but also from a very long way away. And the profit that we raise all goes back into the local area. Combined with the fireworks event in November we have donated about £40,000 to village causes.”

Tony paid tribute to people from Baston who helped organise and run the show. He said: “Without their support and time it wouldn’t happen.”

Next year’s show will take place on July 3.
