Another race and another win for Steels

Claire Steels' superb start to the season continued at the weekend when she raced to a third consecutive victory.

The Bourne-based athlete was first lady home in the Clumber Park Duathlon near Worksop completing the 6.25-mile run, 25-mile bike ride and three-mile run in 2:06:00.

She was of course also first female finisher in her age group and 53rd overall.

Peterborough Triathlon Club (PACTRAC) had two runners competing in the event.

Jim Fell finished first in his age group with 2:38:36 and Adam Madge was 49th overall and ninth in his age group.

Fell received a trophy, a voucher for £20 and a crate of non-alcoholic beer which he had to carry half a mile to the car park!

Results: 49 Adam Madge 2:05:37 (age group 9th); 53 Claire Steels 2:06:00 (first lady and age group 1st); 298 Jim Fell 2:38:36 (age group 1st).

Retired city headmaster Eric Winstone took part in the Clumber Park Sprint Duathlon and was fourth in his age group with 1:19:27.

He is hoping that will earn him selection to compete for Team GB at this year’s European Sprint Duathlon Championships.

Paul Jephcott (PACTRAC) competed in the Suffering Obstacle Spring Race at Rockingham Castle and finished the gruelling course in 4:28:15.

He said: “This was very, very muddy. It was 14 miles, 40 obstacles, and lots and lots of mud. I’m exhausted and filthy, but smiling.”

James Steventon took part in two courses back to back, finishing the Pain and Suffering in 4:40:43 followed by the Suffering course in 5:07:53.

Two PACTRAC members tackled the Stathern Duathlon in the Vale of Belvoir (Run 3-miles, Bike 11.25 miles, Run 3-miles).

Results: 11 Jonathan Crowley 79:57; 52 Chris

Troop 90:23.

Junior PACTRACer Katie Tasker came third in the Bedford Duathlon.

Olivia Corner, another PACTRAC junior, was part of a team from Kimbolton School that won a silver medal in the Under 11 girls race at the National Schools Cross-Country Championships.
