Cobblers thumped Exeter 4-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley to set up derby dates with Posh next season.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: “Well done to the Cobblers & welcome back to League One. The one real ‘local’ rivalry I’ve experienced in 15 years at Posh.”

Hide AdPosh haven’t lost to Northampton in eight meetings since MacAnthony took control at Posh in October, 2006. Indeed the last Cobblers win in the fixture was April, 2006.
Posh co-owner Dr Jason Neale believes the home fixture with Cobblers could be worth £100k to his club (if fans are allowed in the stadium). Last night Dr Neale said: “Congratulations Northampton and we look forward to welcoming you to the Weston Homes Stadium next season. I’m already excited.”
Posh have dominated Cobblers over the years. In 54 Football League clashes Posh have won 27, drawn 13 and lost 14.
It’s now 12 seasons since Cobblers finished above Posh in the Football League standings.
