HOCKEY: Defeat is costly for City of Peterborough Ladies
City saw plenty of the ball, but were often denied by a well-organised visiting defence, Cambridge also attacked on the break impressively, although City can take consolation that this was a much better result than when the teams first met in September - Cambridge won that game 6-2.
The visitors opened the scoring on 15 minutes at Bretton Gate. City equalised through Robyn Gribble, but Camnbridge were back in front before half time.

Hide AdEarly in the second half COP had the opportunity to equalise after a strong passage of play that saw Pip Nicolas, who was awarded player-of-the-match, link up with Gribble, and make a strong run up the middle of the field. The pass from Nicolas was accurate but Rhianne Saunders failed to convert the subsequent one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper.
Cambridge added a third goal on the breakaway to secure victory.
City are next in action on Saturday (January 16) when they travel to local rivals Wisbech, seeking revenge for another early-season defeat.
