A first look inside The Bull at Market Deeping after refurbishment

The chance to take over a village pub where she had worked some years ago was too good to turn down for Gail Demaine.

And after getting the keys to The Bull at Market Deeping last month, she and her team, including husband Alan Spratley, set about giving the place a much-need refresh.

"It was looking a bit tired,” she says of the historic inn, "and it was quite dark. So we changed the lighting, sanded the wooden floors, fitted new carpets where we needed to and bought a lot of new furniture. We also changed the upstairs from a pool room back to a restaurant area.”

After a 16-day upheaval, the place is back in business, much to the delight of customers. And last week, it started serving food from menus with a real gastropub feel about them.

Next for the couple, who also own The Stage in Deeping, The Black Horse at Baston and The Horseshoe at Thurlby, is the beer garden in time for the summer months.

•Look out for a 20 per cent off offer on food at all four pubs starting next week.
