Work to fix the water supply at a Peterborough mobile home site has been taking place this afternoon.

The residents at the Dukesmead mobile home site in Werrington have been without water since Tuesday - but it is hoped they will be reconnected to the supply by this evening.

Peter Whiteley, who manages the site, said a private contractor had damaged a hydrant on Tuesday leading to the problems.

He said: "When we realised what had happened we got in touch with Anglian Water, who have arranged for a contractor to come out and fix the problem. We are expecting it to be back online today.

"It has been distressing for residents, but a lot of them have been very resiliant.

"We've been out and apologised to them, and arranged for a bowser to be put in place. When we spoke to the residents, most accepted that accidents happen."

A spokesman for Anglian Water said: "It was third party damage to the site and on private land. As we didn't know the layout of the pipes, it would not have been safe for us to do the work, but we have arranged for contractors we work with to go and fix the problem, and it should be fixed today."
