The Conservatives have gained overall control of Peterbough City Council after taking 31 seats of the 60 available.

The final tally is: Cons 31, Labour 14, Lib Dems 7, Liberals 3, Werrington First 3, UKIP 2.

Changes introduced by the Boundary Commission mean that all Peterborough City Council seats were up for election this year. The total number of wards has reduced from 24 to 22 and the number of seats is now 60, rising from 57.

In a number of wards residents were asked to vote for up to three candidates. Local elections are held three years out of every four and therefore candidates will be elected to serve for four, three or two years using the following rules as outlined by the city council:

In those wards where there were three vacant seats, the candidate that gained the most votes is elected for four years, the candidate receiving the second most votes for two years and the candidate receiving the third most votes for two years.

In wards where there are two seats, the candidate with the most votes will be elected for three years and the candidate with the second highest number of votes is elected for three years.

In wards where there is one seat, the winning candidate is elected for four years.
