Damaged sewer was to blame for Stamford's sinkhole, says council
As previously reported here, the hole - which was said to be around three deep and six feet long - was spotted last Wednesday afternoon at the junction of Scotgate and West Street.
The junction had to be partly closed and temporary traffic lights were put in place, leading to frustrating delays for motorists.

Hide AdLincolnshire County Council said yesterday it expected the road to be back to normal first thing this morning, but the road is currently still being repaired.
It is now expected to reopen this evening (Tuesday).
Anglian Water said the problem was diagnosed following a CCTV survey of the hole. A spokesperson said: “After the CCTV survey of the sewer we found a section had collapsed. Our teams worked over the weekend to repair it and fill the hole. The section of road will be resurfaced today and everything should be back to normal this evening.
“We would like to thank road users for their patience whilst this urgent repair work was completed.”
